Pier 3 Fire and Potable Water Systems, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Project Description

CGR was awarded the detailed design, project management and site supervision for the construction of a fire and potable water system around Pier 3.

The design of the fire water system meets the NFPA Standards (National Fire Protection Association – USA).

The project involved the design of the pump house, including the installation of two pumps for river water propelled by respective diesel engines, with their casing, suction tubes, inlet filters and electrical and alarm systems, as well as 4,500 m of Schedule 40 pipe in trench and 52 hydrant pits.

The construction works are being carried out in many stages, in order to avoid interference to the terminal operation. This is particularly restrictive for the work progress since most of the pipelines run along the operative wharves.

The demolition of existing pavements is being necessary for the installation of the pipes, as well as on site resolution of interference with many not documented existing installations and the later reinstatement of the pavements to their original condition.
