Project Description

London Gateway Port Limited (LGPL) which is part of DP World is developing a major new port on the site of the old Shell Haven oil refinery at Coryton, Essex. This fully developed port will consist of a new 7 berth fully automated container terminal, a 3 berth Ro-Ro terminal and a new Shell jetty.

Works include;

  • 30 million m3 of dredging over approximately 100km of channel
  • 2240m of container quay
  • Reclamation, ground improvement and paving of 175 ha
  • Buildings, services
  • A 3 berth Ro-Ro terminal
  • New Shell jetty able to handle aviation fuel and bitumen vessels
  • Twinning of the existing branch line
  • Major highway works to the A13 and M25

The work undertaken to date by CGR include:

  • Assistance as part of the public inquiry into the no alternatives case
  • Secondment of CGR staff into the London Gateway Port team
  • Masterplanning of the port including assessment of different handling options, layouts and associated terminal capacities
  • Concept design for the dredging, reclamation and container terminal construction
  • Overall technical assistance and advice
