Project Description
Cagliari International Container Terminal is located on the Island of Sardinia, Italy. Our client purchased the already constructed facilities. Due to a number of problems with the pavement in the adjacent container terminal which was constructed at the same time as the purchased terminal, Cullen Grummitt & Roe was requested to investigate the existing container terminal yard. The yard was to be used to accommodate typical container terminal loading, including reachstacker and RTG operation.
After inspecting the site, Cullen Grummitt & Roe organised an appropriate investigation using a local geotechnical engineering firm. The results of this investigation were then used to analyse the potential for ongoing consolidation settlement. The upper pavement layers were also analysed and recommendations made for preparing the pavement for container terminal operation.
