Project Description

Cullen Grummitt & Roe was requested to undertake an inspection of the timber wharf at the Tennyson Power House and to provide a report on the general condition of the wharf, as the current owners are considering a number of development options for the site.

The wharf was originally designed by CGR in the 1960’s to serve as a berthing wharf for coal barges to unload coal at the power house.  The wharf consists of a concrete deck and access walkway supported by a system of timber girders and beams which are supported on timber piles.  CGR inspected all major structural members of the wharf from a small boat to assess their general condition, degree of termite damage, and deterioration from dry rot.  CGR also supervised a team of divers who conducted an underwater inspection of the piles and the pile concrete armour.  A report was given to the client that outlined the condition of the members in the wharf and identified members requiring repair/replacement.
