Murarrie Coldroom Extension (Stages 4 and 5), Brisbane

Project Description

Stage 4

A new chiller extension and refurbishment of existing cold rooms at the Cold Storage complex at Murarrie was designed and documented.

The project components were a 20,000m3 chiller, refurbishment of existing cold rooms to yield a larger area of loading dock, and a 280m2 amenities building.  External works included extending the existing entry/exit roadway and drainage works.

The particular requirements of the project involved minimising the impact on the adjacent operational cold store, and the installation of a complete fire warning and protection system consisting of a VESDA system and a fire ring main, as well as the erection of a fire wall of pre-cast concrete panels (11 metre height) along the south-east face of the building.

Stage 5

Stage 5 involved the construction of a freezer room with an internal volume of 17,200m3, extensions to the battery charging area, a small maintenance workshop and external pavements.

The VESDA system and fire services installed in stage 4 were extended to service the new building.
