BMIP Shiplift Facility, Hemmant, Australia

Project Description

Brisbane Marine Industry Park, with the cooperation from the Port of Brisbane Corporation and the Queensland Government, is developing a major precinct for the storage, construction and servicing of marine vessels.

Cullen Grummitt and Roe was commissioned to design the facilities for a 1500T Syncrolift and a 650T straddle lift.  CGR developed a master plan for the site and staged construction alternatives for the site.  Technical assistance has also been provided to assist in the gaining of the required Local Authority and Statutory approvals for the precinct.

The initial stage of the development was for a sheet pile wall, dredging and two finger wharves capable of supporting a future 650T ship straddle lift even though a 300T straddle lift is to be used initially.  CGR has provided services for the design, documentation and supervision of the construction of the marine structures as well as the associated pavements and services. An environmentally friendly vessel washdown facility was also included in the facility.

The ship straddle lift facility was completed in September 2002 and the development of subsequent stages, including the installation of a Syncrolift facility is currently underway.
