Project Description

The Papua New Guinea Ministry of Transport requested a feasibility study for the relocation of the existing port of Port Moresby. Cullen Grummitt & Roe was commissioned by Tong Woo to investigate the most suitable location for the port and to assess subsequent development cost and staging. The existing port is now second only to Lae in terms of cargo throughput in Papua New Guinea. CGR, under direction from our client, chose Tatana Island as the nominated site for the new ‘greenfields’ port. The new development will consist of a container terminal, break-bulk cargo terminal, fishing harbour, bulk liquids terminal and other port infrastructure such as pilot station, tug mooring and site offices.

Cullen Grummitt & Roe services for the feasibility study included review and assessment of cargo volumes, master planning, detailed cost estimate for the development, preliminary design, project staging, navigational aid setout and report.
