Project Description
The Port Qasim Authority entered into a contract with Qasim International Container Terminal Pakistan Limited (QICT) to develop a container terminal on Berths 5 to 7 at Port Qasim, Pakistan.
The contract included the restoration of night navigational capability to the port. This involved installing and/or replacing sufficient buoys, beacons and lights in the approach channels and turning basins to Port Qasim to enable safe and reliable navigation for container vessels 24 hours a day.
From a total of 74 buoys, 20 were missing and needed replacement and one was on board a tender vessel, leaving 53 buoys in need of repair and replacement of lights. The buoys ranged in size between 2.5m and 3.05m diameter.
CGR was commissioned to:
- design the system
- prepare tender documents for the work
- call tenders
- recommend a contractor
- administer the contracts
- supervise the work
- prepare final inspections and acceptance certificates.
The project was completed in October 1996.
