Project Description
Kelang Container Terminal (KCT) was one of the first ports in the world to be privatised. KCT, as part of their terminal expansion, required additional container wharf facilities to be developed. The expansion included the conversion of the existing general cargo berths into container berths. The general cargo berths, built in 1964, required upgrading to double their load carrying capacity to provide container crane running beams and to accommodate ships up to 60,000 DWT.
Cullen Grummitt & Roe was required to plan and design the upgrading work to produce a wharf compatible with the adjoining container wharf and suited to the client’s operations, whilst utilising the structural capacity of the existing wharf where it was economically achievable. CGR completed all design, documentation, project management and supervision.
In addition to the upgrade of Berth 10 and 11, CGR was responsible for the design and documentation of wharf repairs for Berths 8-11 and crane rail fixing repairs for Berths 8-10.
Subsequent to this major work, Cullen Grummitt & Roe has been responsible for the design, documentation, project management and supervision of a new rear crane beam at Berth 9.
