Aqaba Container Terminal

Project Description

Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) is the only container terminal in Jordan, and a major gateway for Jordanian trade, as well as for transit cargo to Iraq and other countries of the region.

In 2005 CGR was commissioned by Aqaba Container Terminal to prepare a terminal master plan for the development of the terminal. Since completing the master plan we have been actively involved in its implementation.

ACT handled 674 525 TEU throughput in 2009; the long term site capacity considers the terminal handling in excess of 1.5 million TEU per annum. The master plan for the development has considered the stage by stage development of the site to achieve this long term annual throughput. The master plan works included consideration of terminal layouts and detailed assessment of yard capacities. The quay development requirements were also taken into account, as well as local conditions related to customs inspections and local Aqaba cargoes.

CGR is currently involved in a major terminal expansion project, which includes detailed design and project management for:

  • The development of 460m wharf expansion
  • The reclamation of the container yard behind the new 460m wharf
  • The development of pavements, services, drainage and associated works for approximately 14Ha of new RTG operated container yards
  • Updated electrical works as required for the new developments

Previous projects completed by CGR for ACT have included:

  • Wharf soffit repairs
  • Conversion of container yards from straddle carrier to RTG operations
  • New electrical installations
  • Wharf and pile condition surveys
  • New RTG track installation
