CGR provided further planning and design for an expansion programme at Gateway Terminals India in Mumbai to increase the annual throughput capacity from 1.4 million TEU to 2.4 million TEU.
The works were undertaken on an 18 hectare site, adjacent to the current terminal and in an area where CGR has previously supervised the reclamation and surcharge for soil improvements.
CGR has maintained a similar layout as used for the main terminal area to provide maximum operational flexibility and equipment utilisation. However, the expansion uses larger rubbed tyred gantry cranes with 1 over 6 stacking rather than 1 over 5 as used in the original yards.
The works required detailed pavement design to allow for the expected 300mm long term settlement throughout the reclamation.
Other aspects of the works included drainage design, design and installation of utilities plus yard lightning. Reefer container handling capacity has also been enhanced with the addition of new reefer access platforms as well as extension of the existing platforms.
Other associated works included in CGR`s commission were the design and installation of cable turning pits and associated electrical works for 2 new container quay cranes.
