Project Description
Momi Bay is located approximately 20km south of Nadi on the main Fijian island of Vitu Levu. This project involved the development of a five star tourist resort.
The first stage of the project involves reclamation and excavation on a tidal flat to form islands around a central lagoon. Once excavated, the lagoon will be connected to the open sea and will form the central point of the resort with accommodation and guest facilities focused on the lagoon. The lagoon will also form a tranquil environment for Fiji’s first over-water bures.
Work is due to commence on site early in 2004 with completion of the first phase of the project by the fourth quarter of 2005. Upon completion the well known Marriott hotel group will operate the resort.
CGR’s services have included the design and documentation of the excavation works, the reclamation works and the accompanying rock revetment works which are required on the exposed sides of the islands due to the regular cyclonic conditions experienced in the region. CGR will undertake site supervision of the reclamation and excavation works. Water quality testing for environmental monitoring will also be carried out by CGR during the construction to ensure that the works do not adversely affect the significant colonies of live coral that surround the area.
