London Gateway Port Limited (LGPL) which is part of DP World is developing a major new port on the site of the old Shell Haven oil refinery at Coryton, Essex. This fully developed port will consist of a new 7 berth fully automated container terminal, a 3 berth Ro-Ro terminal and a new Shell jetty.

Southampton Container Terminal is one of the UK’s largest container terminals and is a joint venture between DP World and Associated British Ports (ABP). ABP is the landlord and owner of the land while DP World manages and operates the facility. The terminal is currently operated by 11 quay cranes and approximately 115 straddle carriers for yard operations. The straddle carriers are a combination of 2, 3 and 4 high. Empty handlers are used for empty container storage.

The Isles of Scilly are archipelago of small islands off the south west coast of Cornwall, 25 miles from Land’s End. There are five inhabited islands: St Mary’s, which is the main island, Tresco, St Martin’s, Bryher and St Agnes. None are over 4 km wide and all are separated by short distances over mostly shallow seas.

CGR was originally commissioned by Sea structures in 2003 to investigate options for constructing a new 150m wharf at Debden, located on the Eastern bank of Barking Creek. The site at Debden then changed ownership but the new owners continued with the project. The current owners, McGrath Bros. Ltd pushed forward with development and completion of the first stage of the new wharf was achieved in early 2007. The site is currently used for concrete batching and recycling waste materials and the primary purpose of the wharf is to allow McGrath Bros. to transport aggregates and recycled materials by barge along Barking Creek and the River Thames.
