In early April 2000, Cyclone Tessi caused widespread damage to the Port at Townsville. Waves removed rock from the protective breakwater and above average rainfall caused siltation in the stormwater drainage and main navigation channels. Subsequently, an insurance claim was lodged by the Port of Townsville. CGR carried out a site investigation five days after the cyclone had passed.

The Brisbane River Management Group, a division of the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency, consisting of stakeholders and Brisbane River user groups, had identified the need for a scoping study to investigate the lack of public refuelling facilities for small craft on the Brisbane River. CGR, together with environmental and public relations consultants, was commissioned to identify past, present and projected future usage of small craft refuelling facilities on the Brisbane River.

The client operated a very old facility that housed boiler and rendering equipment at the abattoir.
Cullen Grummitt & Roe worked with Meateng Pty Ltd, a meat process design company, to design a new building of 1140m2 that could be installed over the existing plant in two stages.
- Upgrade of Existing Ferry Terminals, Brisbane, Australia

The Brisbane City Council required maintenance and upgrading to meet stringent safety requirements at three ferry terminals on the Brisbane River. The steel pontoons at River Plaza and Merthyr Road were redesigned with safer deck layouts and streamlining structures were added to the ends to reduce suction eddies along the face of the pontoons. The existing pontoon at the Norman Park ferry terminal was replaced with a new pontoon to meet the safety requirements. Two terminals required new disabled access paths.

The project included a river bank protection wall and a pontoon and walkway to provide a mooring for a 72 foot, 85 tonne private vessel on the Brisbane River at Hawthorne.

The client required a 25m long pontoon to moor a new luxury motor vessel. The pontoon was to be supplied with mains power, phone lines, cable television connection, mains water and connection to Brisbane City Council sewerage network. A stainless steel refuelling line was also installed, with camlock connection for direct refuelling from a road tanker. Lighting for the pontoon, walkways and gates was to be controlled by a photoelectric cell.
