The ManuManu flood of January 1999 in the Ba River caused erosion and destabilisation to the riverbank at the Rarawai Sugar Mill, Ba. An existing grout mattress had failed and new stabilisation work was required to protect the Mill buildings from further flood damage.

Cyclone ‘Joe’ caused extensive damage to a grouted mattress seawall and terraced beach, threatening the integrity of the resort’s pool and recreation area.
Cullen Grummitt & Roe joined a team of experts which visited the site to provide technical advice on restoration.
A report was prepared detailing the findings of the site inspection, technical assessment, reinstatement costs and recommendations.

A loan was given by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to the Fiji Government to carry out improvements to the main ports of Suva and Lautoka. As part of ADB’s policy, a condition of the loan was that improvements had to be implemented in Fiji’s management of its port assets.
